Welcome to Shoeshiner.com
My name is Ali Aydin, and I founded Shoeshiner.com on a simple belief: true care, done properly, restores more than appearance.
I was born in Amsterdam and shaped by Dutch structure and Turkish tradition. Before this craft, I built twelve businesses with ambition and hope. One by one, they failed. In 2014, I lost everything, including my home. I lived in my car and worked long hours cycling for Uber Eats. In 2019, with support from the municipality of Amsterdam, I found housing again, but I was still searching for a way to rebuild with meaning, dignity, and direction.
When the pandemic came, I was not asking myself what I could do with my last money — there was no money left. I was asking a harder question: how can I begin again at all? That search led me to shoeshining. What drew me in was not only the craft itself, but the philosophy behind it: restoration over waste, care over neglect, and the belief that what is worn still deserves value, respect, and another chance. That felt deeply personal to me. I knew what it meant to need one.
I started with shoe polish and the most basic supplies I could gather, and from there I began to learn.
I trained with cobblers in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. But I wanted to learn the profession properly, at a deeper level. To keep going, I sold my phone, fell behind on payments, and borrowed money so I could travel to Turkey. It was not easy there. I met the wrong people and went through difficult experiences, but I stayed committed to mastering the craft.
I learned from a shoeshiner with more than 55 years of experience, then returned to Amsterdam, built my own shoeshine boxes, and received official permission from the city to begin.
Back in Amsterdam, every shine became more than a service. I was not only polishing shoes — I was restoring pride, listening to stories, and slowly rebuilding my own life.
Today, Shoeshiner.com offers refined, founder-led shoe care for executives, hotels, events, and brands that value detail, presentation, and respect for craftsmanship. I also work as a community-based social worker, supporting people who feel left behind because I have been there myself. I know what it means to fall, and what it takes to begin again with dignity.
Shoeshiner.com stands for craftsmanship, sustainability, circular thinking, dignity, and second chances. My ambition is to grow it into a world-ready symbol of modern restoration and timeless care — and one day open Shoeshiner Academies that pass this tradition forward.
This is not just about shoes.
It is about restoration, dignity, and second chances.
